The Power of Our Urban Constellation
It is time for us to rethink the value of small cities and towns, repositioning them as urban hubs within a productive and sophisticated urban network. SvN Managing Partner Drew Sinclair draws comparisons between Southern Ontario and other urban regions of similar global importance in the August issue of Building Magazine
The global pandemic has opened up opportunities that make it increasingly feasible for employees to work remotely. This trend has also opened up new opportunities to live in other communities across Southern Ontario. Many of these municipalities are already globally connected and internationally recognized through their research, manufacturing, tourism or culture. Comparing Toronto with Italy's Emilia-Romagna or contemporary Dutch urbanism, Sinclair suggests that we consider small urban centres as a complete urban constellation, paying attention to building award-winning transit, housing and mixed-use urban systems to define a future of regional urbanism in Ontario.
