SvN Architects + Planners Expand Leadership Team with New Partner Appointment and Planning Lead Hire

SvN announces significant growth to its leadership team with the appointment of Sam Dufaux toPartner, as well as the introduction of Andrew Goodyear, in a newly developed Planning Lead role. The expansion of senior leadership is a reflection of SvN’s growing agility, with multi-disciplinary talent that have the ability to anticipate the challenges of complex projects, and ultimately guide work from conception to implementation with robust, context-specific solutions.
Prior to joining SvN in 2018, Dufaux spent a considerable amount of time workinginternationally, most recently spending ten years at New York’s WORK Architecture Company. As an Associate Principal at WORKac, Dufaux led diverse award-winning projects in New York (including the Kew Gardens Hills Library, Children’s Museum of the Arts, the Edible Schoolyards at PS7 and PS216 and Wieden+Kennedy’s offices) as well as the New Holland Island Masterplan in St-Petersburg, Russia and Nature-City in Oregon. During his tenure as Design Director at SvN, Dufaux has transformed the firm’s approach to architecture and urban design with a focused methodology that ensures design and research are at the core of the multifaceted practice’s efforts. In his role as Partner, Dufaux will continue to lead key firm projects across all scales with a focus on the integration of architecture, landscape and ecological systems for a post-carbon world.
Goodyear joins the SvN planning team from Toronto Community Housing where he was the Senior Development Director. With 18 years of land use planning experience in Toronto, the GTA, the U.S and England, as well as a diverse academic background including degrees in Commerce, Law and Planning, Andrew’s keen interest in the development and revitalization of urban areas is matched with a thorough understanding of supporting strategies and processes.The new Planning Lead role at SvN will see Goodyear focus on marquee firm projects including advisement for the Ontario Line.

Sam Dufaux, MS, B.Arch
Sam is an Architect and Principal at SvN. Prior to SvN, Sam was an Associate Principal at WORKac in New York City, where, for 10 years, he led many of the firm’s built projects, public works, commercial, residential projects and masterplans. He received his Master’s degree from Columbia University after earning his Bachelor of Architecture degree in Switzerland, where he is a licensed architect. Sam is currently a Sessional Lecturer at the John H. Daniel Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto and has taught at Columbia University.
Andrew Goodyear, M.Pl, B.A, RPP
Andrew is a Registered Professional Planner, member of the Ontario Professional Planning Institute and Planning Lead at SvN. Prior to joining SvN, Andrew was the Senior Development Director at Toronto Community Housing (TCH) where he worked with private development partners to manage the planning, financial and community outreach elements of three large scale revitalization initiatives in Toronto: Alexandra Park in downtown Toronto, as well as AllenburyGardens and Leslie Nymark, both located in North York. Much of his work involves master planning, negotiating planning approvals and facilitating building and community design processes. Prior to his role at TCH, Andrew worked as a planning consultant, with a focus on master planning, brownfield redevelopment, development approvals and proposal call management.
